In my mind there are really only three Evil Strategy games, where you take control of the villain to wreck havoc on the world.

Evil Genius ($14.99):

Evil Genius is one of my favorite games of all time. If you have not played it, I would highly recommend it! The player takes the role of one of three brilliant masterminds each with plans to take over the world from their secret island bases. Throughout the game, the player builds epic complexes into island volcanoes, leveraging minion happiness and overall functionality to create perfect operational efficiency. Minions fill one of four roles, basic worker, soldier, scientist, or social, each with a subset of upgrades. A true mastermind keeps a good mix of each. To research new technology, confuse island tourists, and kill agency infiltrators.

All the while sending teams of your best men out into the world to extract money from any number of illicit markets and preform acts of notoriety and infamy. The game is set in the 1960′s and lets you play out the fantasies of bond villains, you even get a chance to fight against bond himself, under a pseudonym of course. I spent many days working though the content in this game and then replaying it from each of the Masterminds, the story remains the same just the starting units and Mastermind bonus are different.

Overall if I were to come up with an arbitrary rating system that ranked games from 1 to turtle, this game would be an iguana, which is like a 11/10 on the traditional scale. It’s just such an epic game, gotta love being evil!

Dungeon Keeper 1 (like $5 used):

Dungeon Keeper, the grand daddy of villain strategy games. It defines the genera, honestly I have not played it nearly as much as Evil Genius or Dungeon Keeper 2, mainly because it came out before I was old enough to be interested in anything other than blowing the heads of aliens, but as I said it defines the genera and is familiar enough to play from my experience with Dungeon Keeper 2 and Evil genius.

The player takes control of the dungeon keeper, a demon of sorts intent on leading his kind to the surface world. Unfortunatly the ground dwelers ar enot sympathetic with your mission and launch wave after wave of units at you, hopefully you have enough soldiers trained to repel them! Great game, a solid eight on the Richter scale (probably enough to demolish a lot of cities).

Dungeon Keeper 2 ($9.99):

Dungeon Keeper 2 kept me mighty busy over the course of a school packed month back in the day. The game is esentially the same as Dungeon keeper 1, just with a massive graphics overhaul and more balanced play. I look at it now, in comparison to Dungeon Keeper 1, and see it as a game mainly addressing the numerous issues with the first. However, as the origional time i spent with it showed, it is an epic stand alone game, worthy of tens if not hundreds of hours of game play!

Honerable Mentions:

Overlord I, Overlord II,  Black and White I and Black and White II

Yep I just don’t want to write anymore… I admit it I’m lazy!
