Do I Hate You?:

I can’t stand when people pronounce meme “me-me” it literally makes me want to punch myself in the kidneys, both of them. The proper pronunciation (not that I’m a grammar freak, or even decent with grammar) is “mi-m/” which rhymes with cream and beam.

However, glaring at people who say “me-me” got me thinking, “Literally, what is a  meme?” And let me tell you, Wikipedia is a god! You can read the Wikipedia article on Meme (disambiguation) here, or continue reading for the abbreviated list version.

What a Literal Meme is, in a List Facilitated by Wikipedia:

A meme is a unit of cultural ideas. – Good to know

The, meme, unit refers to any entity that an observer (aka you) might consider a replicator (something you would tweet, facebook share, digg, stumble, or otherwise clutter the mailbox of your friends with).

In a technical sense a meme is not just internet garbage that we find horribly fascinating; real world examples include fashions and learned skills.

Life-forms can transmit information both vertically (from parent to child, via replication of genes) and horizontally (through viruses and other means). Memes can replicate vertically or horizontally within a single biological generation. – Oh snaps THEY ARE ALIVE

Memetics is the study of memes as a insight into cultural evolution. Yes memetics is from the 1980′s.

Memetics is considered pseudoscience bullshit by many reputable pseudo-scientists.

Internet Memes:

Like the traditional meme but on the internet.

Essentially the propagation of urls between people.

Memes are often snippets of a larger body of work transposed onto or into humerus situations.

Marketers refer to memes as viral marketing and buzz

Also known as LoL.

But You Don’t Have to Take My Work For It!:

Oh actually you do… I mean, if you were going to fact check this you already would have done so!
