Rather than going for the ol’ hollow and jab approach, Ray skillfully carves away the skin leaving the pumpkin intact except with an entirely new look on life. While this type of pumpkin carving might be out of the picture for the everyday man it is certainly a treat to look at.

So, you’re an art student and due to a shipping error you receive over 100 pounds of shipping tape. What do you do with that tape? Well, it should be obvious, build a huge shipping tape spider web!

The tape web was on display in June 2010 at the Odeon, an old stock exchange building in Vienna, and used 117,000 feet of shipping tape! The tape web art is intended to represent the choreography of dance, and how a dancer morphs her body into exquisite beauty.

This kind of epic scale art is no stranger to the design team, who are all veteran set designers with the design collective For Use/Numen which works with many foreign films.

The group has already been contacted by a number of interested parties who want to exhibit the tape spider web. Hopefully, this tape spider web craze really picks up and a new genre of art is born.

Recently, I wrote a blog post on 3d chalk street art, which included the above picture, and today I came across a time-lapse video of the artist in action making the above 3d chalk street art! Frankly, this perspective street art is amazing, it is a shame that more 3d street art artists don’t exist because it is such a unique way to pull the audience into the fun and creativity of the art.

But that is enough of me rambling, more after the videos, but for now, enjoy the feature presentation:

The Crevasse – Making of 3D Street Art

Spectacular! 3d street art accomplishes so many of the goals that artists set out to accomplish when creating art. The street art engages the viewers and makes them wonder. The blur time lapse is the perfect example of how this kind of 3d street art can challenge the viewer to imagine different worlds by offering a very physical window into the artists mind. Or the chasm which shows how interactive art can become. Street art, particularly 3d street art (because it is my favorite) has so much to offer and hopefully it becomes more wide spread.

The Italian sculpture Maurizio Savini has been best known in recent years for his skillful usage of bubble gum, used to create these marvelous bubble gum sculptures. I think this quote about sums up his passion:

The sensual act of chewing, the voluptuous warmth of rebelling saliva, the artificial and secretly aseptic fragrance which spreads from the mouth as a promise and missed kiss.

His gum art takes on all aspects of life, from nature to corporate america, to drugs, he leaves nothing untouched. Part of the draw of these gum ar it the media itself but the messages cannot be taken for granted, like a good salesman he draws the audience in and then feeds them (pun intended, pun very much intended) his ideas. Overall, I enjoy the medium, however the gum sculptures themselves are a little romanticized for my taste. Although, the gum buffalo is a thinker, I really liked that one.

Okay, now tell me, what did you think of this gum art? Was it a little to romanticized for you as well?

I’m not sure how this is the first time I have seen this piece of truly amazing pop art, but here it is, the Nobumasa masterpiece. These shots are from 2006 (hence my surprise at not having seen it until now) so hopefully they are new to you. Nobumasa worked with Space Force, Japan, to create this sharpie mural.

Basically, guest artists were given free range on this wall (as you can see they drew a lot of random stuff) and Nobumasa filled it in with all those fine details.

But, you don’t have to listen to me blabber on here are the pictures of the sharpie mural (the picture of the complete sharpie mural is at the bottom of the post):

1. Minute: 0 – Yep this is the control

2. Minute: 85 – Artist claims to be seeing much more clearly, but is having a hard time stopping the crayon.

3. Minute: 150 – Artist describes his drawing as changing color and that his consciousness is situated in his hand.

4. Minute: 152 – Artist is having a hard time distinguishing the lines on the paper, as they are warping before his eyes.

5. Minute: 155 – Attempts to draw picture in one stroke, breaks down laughing afterwards.

6. Minute: 165 – Artist no longer vocalizes his thoughts and mumbles nonsensical phrases.

7. Minute: 265 – Artist predicts that this will be his best drawing yet. Then continues to repeat the phrase “I know.” Then begins the run around the room.

8. Minute: 345 – Artist reports that he is getting back to normal now that he can feel his legs again, but the pencil (crayon) remains hard to hold.

9. Minute: 480 – Artist reports that he is no longer feeling the effects of the LSD and that he would like to go home.

Fin.

I particularly enjoy how from minutes 150 – 155 his drawings become far worse, then all of a sudden he is amazing.
